Take Mazda. Introduced a turbo engine in the 3 (after seemingly killing the Mazdaspeed 3), but it is only available with auto transmission. Mazda still offers a manual, but only with the naturally aspirated engine. I for sure would have traded up to a turbo version if they offered a stick. Alas. Today, yesterday, and every car I’ve ever owned (I’m 66).

I drove my old 3-on-the-tree Ford F-100 a few weeks ago. Hoping to take it out again this weekend or next week.

I had a car with an automatic transmission for about a year, but that was long ago. All other cars (including current one) have had standard transmissions.
Funny how the names have changed: When I started driving, a transmission with a driver actuated clutch was called a "standard". A few years later, these were re-named "manual" transmissions. These days they're called "millenial anti-theft devices". Interestingly, a manual transmission is the only part of modern drivetrains that are completely under driver control. The accelerator pedal is now just an input to a microprocessor. Brakes are modulated both by the brake pedal and by a microprocessor under ABS and ESC, and some cars have sensor activated automatic braking. Many cars also have automated steering systems, for things like Lane Holding and Automatic Parking. Some cars have experienced "unintended accelerations", but that can't happen with a manual transmission - the wheels aren't connected to the engine unless the driver wants them to be. |

Last for me was 2006 when my Outback Sport got t boned and totaled by a red light runner. I really like driving straight shift but like electric much more so will never have one again. |

OT: Last time you drove a stick shift car?
I drove my friend’s VW CC last month. Until we needed a family car, I drove a stick (Saab, VW, Mazda)
Lately I be been toying with getting a “fun car” and eyeing the 2022 Subaru BRZ in stick , which was remodeled. Getting great reviews and looks like a blast to drive, and under $40K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I drive a Suburban mostly, so not a stick. However, yesterday, on a long drive after a long day (up at 5 am, raced bikes, drove 5 hours ending in the evening), when traffic slowed slightly, I actually reached down to shift gears. Then realized I just grabbed my water bottle.
I wouldn't have the Suburban if it wasn't for needing a tow vehicle. My other automatic was the prior tow vehicle, an Expedition. I briefly contemplated getting an old manual pick up for towing but decided against it - although I'm sure it'd be fine normally, I think any weird maneuvering with the trailer would get real old real fast. Wife has a manual Honda (2017 Civic 1.5) - she's never owned an automatic. And my other car is a manual Sentra (2002) which is actually a very fun car. I find driving very engaging, and shifting is part of that. But for me driving is enjoyable in itself. |

I owned only stick vehicles from 2004-2020. If I could have found what I wanted and family needed for our current needs with a stick, I'd still be driving one. Hope to get a fun car someday that I can row gears in again.
