This past wednesday, I also taught jr to drive in our Volvo 240 that has a stick shift.

Modern dual clutch trannys are pretty impressive from a performance standpoint for sure but I hope manuals never completely die off.

Test drove a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek in manual a month ago. Really nice and loved the way it drove. If this car wasn't specifically for commuting in to the city in stop and go traffic, I would have bought that car. Well also wanted adaptive cruise control which the manuals didn't have.

Ended up with a 2022 HRV. No power and it's not nearly as much fun to drive, but it gets me there in comfort, with all the safety features, and has magic seats for the dog and my bike.

Every vehicle I’ve owned since 1987 has had a manual transmission.

Geez--I still think of myself as a manual transmission kind of guy--but we have been married for over 30 years, and my wife has a mental block about standard transmissions--so the last manual I drove every day was a VW Golf--in the previous century (1998-99)...

Learned on a standard (of course), drove everything from tractors to big trucks with standards--then bupkus...

Lately I have been looking at bargain fun cars--and I'm torn between getting something that I would like (standard) or something my wife would drive...

Yesterday.

I dont really like to drive automatics tbh unless im just driving around a city. I like my clutch and to go from 5th to 3rd when overtaking. It just feels right.

I wonder if those beeing born now will drive anything at all, wont they likely be driven by the car when they are old enough to drive? maybe the new age of beeing allowed to drive will be 5 or something as it just requires the person to put in an address on the dashboard. I dunno.

Edit: On their iphone ofc how silly of me to think anything else.

Was about 3 years ago, when I got current car.

Between 1981 and 2018, all I drove were stick shift cars.

Been 'driving' manual transmission bikes even longer.

My Isuzu is a manual, as well as all the vans I've had.

Daily BMW E90. Modern automatics can be great on many levels but can't match the engagement of a stick.

About six or seven years now. I miss it for pleasure driving, but can't afford a spare car for that and commuting in Seattle with a manual would drive me even more insane than it already does.

I’m sorry I can’t resist. When did Subaru cross treks become fun to drive?

Every day:
Golf TDI
Subaru Crosstrek
‘65 Mustang

Would have gotten my Duramax with a manual if it had been available.
