Sticky hoods black comes off on hands

Pulled the old CX bike out of the shed for a couple local races this weekend. Road it twice to test it out and noticed my hands are black after riding like the rubber is soft and coming off.

IS there a way to clean this sort of thing up? I tried soap and water but it didn't work. I'm guessing I just need to replace them but can't do it before tomorrow.

Depends which model levers they are too as not all hoods are replaceable.

Shimano 10-speed. They still have exterior cables so my guess is I have to recable to put new hoods on too.

10 speed has hoods on the market.
You'll either have to re-cable or undo the tape to do it from behind. Not sure which is less painful.

I would guess you hoods are sticky and gummy from old age. It’s not worth washing or cleaning since they’re old. Buy new hoods and tube up the other stuff while you’re at it
