Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. This is a major decision and clearly I have a lot to think about.

From the man himself! Well, I'll look extra closely at the Deda, 8º angle be damned.

Second both of these options and i'll add one more. The Bontrager RXL of a few years back are nearly identical to those older Ritchey WCS stems and are also easily available on eBay. I have one on a bike and it looks great.

I think you’d be happy with the Deda. I have one on my Kirk and it looks great.
Also very light= “Superleggero”.
Only downside is you need a little extra in terms of spacers given: 1) the -8d vs -6d, and 2) the Superleggero has a stack height of 36mm vs most other stems which are 38-40mm.

If I had a 1" threadless Hampsten, I'd go with the Cinelli Sesamo:

In the absence of readily available alternatives I persevered with a Cinelli Sesamo for a while.

Handlebars were prone to rotation in the stem clamp (this was Nitto M176 Dream bars with a well keyed centre section). Ultimately it took grip paste and a lot more than the recommended torque (15Nm from memory) to hold them in place.

Ultimately I lost confidence in the arrangement and replaced the stem with a Nitto 1 1/8” and corresponding Nitto shim which has been trouble-free for several years since.

If the Nitto M176 is the Dream bar I think a threadless version of this is the Dream stem for 1” steerers…

this may have already been suggested, but a custom stem has kept my Bob Jackson real classy. Earl Glazer of Glazer Cycles fillet brazed me a stem. My only regret is the faux lugs. I wish I kept my stem clean.

He did it very affordably for me.

But my favorite as also light n black if one is going for that more modern look the extralite, comes in 6 degrees but i preer 10 as pictured or hmm was that 12.. unsure.

These boards need a like button. Actually, it needs a "wow, that is an amazing bike" button.

I went through this a while back and the Deda on a Hampsten is the go to. I got a Winter custom for my Sachs but part of me wants to thread the steerer for a Nitto Pearl. Another route which I used for a time is a steel Salsa stem. Some are 17 degrees.

Any idea how much custom stems cost from English or any of the other builders?

If you need a stem this short and tall, -17 seems silly. I would think a -7 could get your bars in the same place and look a little more graceful.
