What were you waiting for? Why just now? I have a plan to ride my bike to the McCloud and catch some trout. It will take me a week or so of riding before I string up my rod. Looks like you live down the street from good fishing

Its a vintage Hardy St Johns reel, maybe 1930s? i forget, but its super loud and does the job.

why just now? well, i just now got a bike that can carry the gear, and its just now steelhead season, so those 2 things came together to create opportunity.
the river is about 8 miles away at its closest. i have spots from 8-20 miles out.

the trick is finding places i can safely store the bike while i fish too.

i only swing hand tied flies, earlier season it was all dry flies, now its slightly bigger wet flies on a light sinking tip.

steelhead are a magnificent creature, so much more rewarding than trout.

Yes I was envisioning the canal rat bike!
The lugged steel fly fishing rig is much more appealing.
I work on the canal and see these rigs all the time. I've caught a lot of stripers at lunch!

awesome pics.

now see if you can modify one of these babies for pedal-powered fishing on open water. insulated fish box, a live well and a rack for a few rods, now you're talkin'!

My New Fishing Rig

This thread seems like an appropriate place to post this video from Salsa. Gotta dig those brown trout themed bike bags.

I keep thinking about a fatbike for surf fishing.......

Probably the only other thing that bike needs is a hand-woven creel. ;-)
