Frame shipping to Switzerland USPS

Trying to input into USPS international shipping calculator and keep getting size is too big. 42x8x28.

Have they changed from the past? Shipped a frame a few years ago to sailor boy in Japan for under $100.

Fedex. UPS, bikefligts $350+

Any ideas??????

Thanks in advance.

The box could be too big for the destination not from where you are shipping from.

For instance i can only ship to USA from Sweden with a special service otherwise the dimensions gets to big. Whilst say shipping to Canada or UK would not have the same box restrictions.

For Switzerland, the maximum measurement is now:

length + girth = 108"

So you are way over this, even though you should not have any difficulty fitting a frame into such a size box. Make your own box.

the maximum dimension used to be 128", so yes it has been reduced.

So, what frame does someone from Switzerland want to buy from the US? Usually frames go in the other direction.

lenght + girt always been 108 that I remember off, but what i noticed like a year or two is that it cant be exactly 108, technically girth + length <= 108.

In my case I always try to keep it equals to 107. because when it hits 108 they shaft you.

OP what you can do is just take 2 inches of the lenght of the box and you would be ok, just cut one of the sides like 3 inches in and sleeve it to the box, problem fixed.

BTW a box 42x8x28 girth + lenght is 114... no wonder you have problems.... cut it in the lenght and the height... and sleeve it.

If you cut the box... 40 x 8 x 25 = 106 ... with that size you shouldnt have any problems....

If you are sending a bicycle, you have to do it in 2 boxes, no other way. One box with the frame (and some parts) around the size im telling you, the other box for the wheelset and some parts... if this is like sending to japan that was the last bike i sent like zillion of years ago it could go down to like 90 bucks each box.

Length plus girth...around the box, vertically..I get 114..I think the max is 108 inches.

You can send most bikes in one 108 postal inch box if you remove the fork and make your own boxes out of very sturdy cardboard that doesn't bow outwards making the laser measurement devices read them as being thicker than they truly are. Most commercial bike boxes are no longer sufficiently resistant and stiff to be re-used, as they bow outwards so much that you need to count at least an additional 2 inches in girth. Use 27 inches height, 10 inches depth and 33 1/2 inches length.

I sold not one but two Kirk framesets to a member in Switzerland.
USPS Priority International is the way to go. Definitely measure carefully on the 108" lenght+girth limit ...my postwoman rounds up on every box dimension!!!
