That standard boss on the upper side of the brace collects less mud/dirt/water when you're riding without a fender. You're not going to get much on there either way with a fender but it still stays a little cleaner on top even in that case.

Give me a break. Keep a bolt or one of these in it.

The boss is there because plastic fenders all use L brackets and metal fenders can use either. That and there are probably still people just as in love with their classic Blackburn rear rack as Petersen is with beeswax and sardine cans.

Every bike I've ever seen with a fender boss there came with a bolt on it...

But stuff does corrode, it's a freakin All City, not a bespoke thing that gets polished more than it gets ridden and gets cleaned with baby wipes every 20 miles. They kind of pride themselves on cheaper bikes that take a beating in bad weather and don't need to be babied.

That said the fasteners on my Space Horse have been high quality. The only rust I've seen on it is leaching out of the Shimano hubs, which granted are only Tiagra.

Wish I could say the same for any of the brake calipers I've put on the bike.

Not sure what everyone else thinks about it but it has changed my perspective on what a road bike should be... At least for me.
