I remember bringing five bottles, carefully wrapped for padding by my clothes, back from CO in my checked suitcase a few summers back. There's one store here in DC that sells grossly outdated bottles for $30 each - yech.

Enjoy them - I remain green with envy!

It's actually the same ridiculousness here...store gets a case on a random day. it is hidden in the back. need to ask / know someone. lucky you now gets to pay some outrageous price. maybe. for ONE.

meanwhile, go to the brewery...and now embarrassment of riches. $5.50 per bottle. that is more like it. I would never say it is the BEST. But I am sure anyone who likes beer would love it.

no matter the beer, it's best to get a big mouthful and swish around then gulp. and know there is a second bottle behind once you finish the first.

Beer needs a gulp to really get all the taste. No sipping like wine.

Just picked up two 4-packs of Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA.

Of course, I had no idea that 120 minute was $40/4-pack... I've never had it -- hoping it's worth it.

(I regularly drink the 90 minute)

San Diego Beer Week is on, offering way too many choices. However, after a nice mountain bike session on Mt. Laguna, I filled two growlers with Alpine Keene Idea which is basically Nelson as a DIPA. The growler fills in Alpine are actually brewed by Pat and the crew in Alpine as opposed to the bottles and cans you are getting in stores, which are just Green Flash with an Alpine label.

On Sunday, we'll ride with Pat and Val on their Holland Exogrids to taste some more special offerings. Anyone near San Diego, there is still time to buy tickets for the Blind Lady Ale House Alpine Challenge - join us!

It is a different beast entirely. note how strong it is before plowing through a couple.

FWIW, I really like the 90.

Personally I don’t like the 120 that much though will never turn one down if offered...I just won’t buy one myself. It is very sweet and has a lot of alcohol..

I don't mind the "has a lot of alcohol" part but I agree it's important to point out that the 120 Minute really has very little to do with their 60 Minute or 90 Minute beers. The 120 isn't an IPA at all; more like a barleywine.

Put it in a brandy snifter or a cognac glass and savor.

So we're talking similar to that sam adam's limited release that was mentioned a few weeks ago... Gotcha.

Aging is suggested -- necessary? worth it? in the fridge, or in the basement?

That’s actually not a bad price at all. I’ve never seen it sold as anything other than individual bottles for sale. It’s really hard to make a beer like that so even though it’s pricey it is related to the effort to make it.

I don't have that kind of patience! If it's available I drink it within days of buying it. Lives in my fridge for that short lifespan.
