Hot and humid...

I only went out for an hour (lunch ride) but my Garmin says the min temp on the ride was 93, the average was 97, and the max was 102.

The weather service says about 50% humidity.

It was nasty. I went on my MTB so I could hide from the sun in the woods, but I had to stop a couple times to let my HR come down.

Be careful out there!

The last few weeks I've been riding at like 6:30AM when I can but things didn't work out for that this week, gotta give my wife a chance to work out too. I hit the air conditioned gym for weight lifting 2 days this week rather than riding.

With the current heat wave I haven't gone for a ride longer than 2 hours in at least a month, particularly on the road. MTB is a little different since stopping to cool off doesn't seem as odd. The fact that I did so many long road rides early in the season is part of it too though.

We're heading to northern VT in another week the heat has not apparently been a factor up there I'm hoping to do some good long rides up there.

Between yesterday and today I've ridden about five hours. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me.

This is considered a dry heat in Chicagoland.

I've been riding before sunrise most mornings this last month. Most times it is over 90%, a couple were a true 100%. Fog. At nearly 80deg. Temps get near 95 or so and the RH "plummets" to 70 or so.

It still beats the cold.

The dewpoint is what you want to find.

Above 70* is pretty bad.

Above 75* is nasty.

Below 60* is decent.

Around 50* is very nice.

A while back we had dewpoints above 80* It was unbelievably horrid.

Currently only 88 here right now, but with a dew point of 78, the feels like temp in 105🌞

The thing is, if it's cold you can always put warm clothes on. (to a point - obviously below, pick a number, for me on the bike it's around 32*, on foot lower)

When it's hot and humid there is nothing you can do to improve the situation. You just have to live with it.

My job has me mostly outside year round. Personally, I'm a lot more comfortable at 95* with a dew point of 75* than at cold temps. When it's below 0 it's not possible for me to wear enough clothes to be warm and also work effectively. A few years ago we went over 3 weeks without going above 0*. I truly envy anyone who is able to stay warm and effective in those temps.

Not a lot of riding here either. Evenings after work often 90+ deg and RH not far behind. Here it is, 7:20am Saturday morn, temp is 75, RH is 90%. Gills seem appropriate.
