Advice on Bora One USB bearings

Hi - I noticed a faint sound coming from the hub of my Bora One 35 rear wheel. This is coming up to the 5000km mark from new. I will take it in to my LBS but am wondering if the bearings need replacing already and if this kind of lifespan is normal. Curious what other Paceliners are getting out of the same hubs? Also, can these be regreased or will a new cartridge be needed? Thanks.

Your wheel will have cup and cone bearings. Probably just a simple adjustment with an allen key and cone wrench. I've got a set of Zondas that are 11 years old with the original grease, just a few adjustments on the rear wheel.

Hard to say, could be the hub bearings themselves or a cart bearing in the FHB. The bearings in the hubs are in a cage but 'loose' 5/32 bearing balls..15 per side, front and rear. FHB cart bearing a standard 6703(I think, I can't remember) cart bearing.

Also, make sure it's the rear hub..'could' be something else..

Really easy to take these apart.

And I have cones if ya cooked one..

Thank you both, very helpful. I am wondering can I do this myself? I have watched the video and it seems quite involved. But my bike shop is maxed out.

I had a issue with my Bora Ones. I was getting a loud clank occasionally when putting force on the right crank. I kept thinking it was coming from my BB or crankarm. Turns out my Campy freehub had a faulty pawl spring

It's not terribly difficult.

I did it for the first time a couple of months ago. Took apart both the front and rear hubs, ultrasonically cleaned all the bits and bearings, and regreased them.

Felt like brand new wheels after that.

It's not really...5mm allens and a 17mm open end wrench(drive side end nut for 17mm wrench is LEFT threaded, righty-loosey)...

NYC...I'll bet there's a formite who knows how to do this in the 'city'...

It isn't bad - no loud noises, just a feint drag - but I figure better to service it rather than risk making it worse. I am in the UK at the moment so will need to get this fixed over here. Will see if I can muster up the courage!

The video is good but it shows a complete bearing overall. I would draw your attention to the initial part of the disassembly where they pop those white seals and the bearings out. That's really as far as you need to go. Just clean, relube and assemble. This would be considered routine maintenance.

Any recommendations on grease? I have tried to find a 4oz tube of original Campy LB100 grease but the reseller I can find on Amazon seems to want $75. Alternatives?

NO grease gun, just yer fingers and grease is oil in 'soap'..any decent grease, even automotive..like white lithium. Best for light colored grease, can see if when it's dirty. DON'T pay big bux for 'spacialty' grease..

I keep a tube of white lithium Napa brand grease in my toolbox. It was a few bucks. I assemble bikes with Phil waterproof.
