26.0 anatomic compact handlebars question

I'm having kind'a hard time finding an ERGO type of compact handlebar, anybody have some experience with any of the following ones?? The Nitto M106 looks supr nice but is insane expensive, havent been able to find even used ones for example.

Deda Piega
IRD blackbird
Nitto M106 NAS
Nitto M184
Soma Hwy One

For example I had moving around a ITM pro something, nice handlebar but at the time I put the shifters high enough where I like them, I can't reach the brake levers from the drops for example.

Any suggestions???

in the old days anatomic meant not smooth curved radius. Soma bars are not anatomic according to that criterion.

I have used FSA Omega and those are just fine.

The hwy one is finished nicely. It's a little heavy compared to high end bars, but it is plenty stiff in return. It's a nice for for 10spd era campy and doesn't break the bank.

Thanks... yeah... will smooth curve but compact... that gets kind'a flat at the top, the ITM i have is not as flat at the top but with the squared type of bend in the bars, I might need to put like a 1 foot long brake lever to reach them from the bottom of the handlebars, and changing the angle of the handlebar doesnt help too much

Ergo is the word I'm looking for?

come to think of it, don't think Omegas are available in 26.0.

The M106 may be expensive but they are beautifully made and very stiff.

not sure if it fits your criteria...but my fave's are Deda anatomic 215's...great bars with lots of top space leading to brifters and then a drop...might want to check them out if you know anyone who has any...for me, most comfortable bars out there...and you can get them used for very cheap...Jeff

I had this same conundrum recently, so I went with the Soma bars. I only just installed them so I'm still evaluating them.

The biggest change that I noticed in comparison to my previous Nitto bars (not the 106, I forget which model...) was the radius from the flat to the top of the drop, it's tighter on the Soma and will take me some getting used to, also the leverage on the Soma bars when out of the saddle for me is quicker/twitchier for obvious reasons of the geometry.

I've used the deda piega before i switched to a 31.8 stem, they worked for me. I'm not a huge fan on short & shallow/compact bars but i wanted a narrow (~38cm) bar and they were CHEAP. no regrets, would recommend.

Another alternative if you can find them: Civia Emersons.
Available in black and silver, they have a very nice curve.

sounds like what you guys are saying is that maybe those piega bars pretty much the same as the old deda anatomic 215's...is that correct? would be good as they are more available...would appreciate any info...

The new Piega is a 75mm reach/ 130mm drop with an RHM bend. The "old" Piega (still in stock at many distros) is an 86mm reach/ 140mm drop with a semi "ergo" flat in the hook of the bar similar in shape to the 215 Ergo (but not the Round or Shallow 215).
