All done, first ride I broke the damn belt somehow under medium tension leaving a stop sign at a major intersection. Any idea what causes these things to break? It was a used bike, the tension was between 60-65Hz which is on the low side of the recommended tension for punchy riding (60-85Hz)

A big shout out to Gates they sent me a new belt and some swag (koozie). Top notch service, new belt is awesome. I dialed down the tension a little and gave it a good rip around town and on some local trails. Very fun!

That looks great--I love the idea of a belt for SS CX. Did Gates have any idea about the break? Defect?

Check the bolts on your split stay. Mine loosened and when I went to wrench them tighter, were exceptionally "soft" and already had rounded out hex-holes from the Factory!

Some drilling and screw extractors later... re-installed Torx-head M5 bolts (disc/rotor bolts fit perfect).

Good to hear about the Gates folks!

Bumping this up again with an update. The binding of the BB was just too much with the Road 68mm GXP Crankset. I moved to a SRAM S952 wide axle and it is much better now, smooth as butter.

Well, the King bottom bracket with GXP adapter just isn't smooth-- or as smooth as a SRAM GXP BB.King bottom bracket required noticable effort to spin cranks. Replaced, low friction and happy!

yep! it's a huge difference between the two. to the level that you feel scammed for even buying the BB; cuz it ain't cheap. the Truvativ GXP is great though. I have them on several bikes and they've held up to tons of abuse.

that said, the CK BB works excellently with Shimano cranks. they should've made an actual BB for GXP, instead of that crap adapter.

Man that is a tough call. The Crockett I have is fantastic. Thru axles might be the best part. Ride is great. However, there was something special about the gates belt drive system. Maintenance free and whisper quiet!
