OT Trip to Montreal July 20-24

Staying at a B&B near the bike route in the Plateau-Mont Royal neighborhood near Lafontaine Park for four nights. Did this about 10 years ago. Not looking for bike rides per se (last time we parked and never moved the car) but things to do and see (and eat and drink!)

Eat bagels.
The only ones I’ve ever had that match up to NYC.

Off the top of my head:

- L'Express
- Musee des Beaux-Artes
- Parc la Fontaine for picnicking and outdoor drinking
- That bagel place if you are into an inferior style of bagel
- Marche Atwater (or any of the public markets)
- The poutine place at the corner of Saint Laurent / Rachel (if you aren't aware that poutine is overrated.)
- Coffee, everywhere

Really, Montreal is great for wandering and finding things to do on the fly. It's a vibrant place during the summer. Just the right kind of crowded, with nice quiet side streets and alleyways full of flowers and greenery (I suppose that's in response to the 8 feet of snow a year.) Long days too. I'd move there if not for the aforementioned 8 feet of snow a year.

I'm sure that you already know this, but it would help to brush up on your conversational french. They all speak English but not by default.

get the DINR app, tons of good restaurants on there, that if a table opens you can use to get a seat fast.

Check out the Just For Laughs Festival, lots of good comedy going on, relatively cheap given the strong exchange rate.

Schwartz's for a smoked meat sandwich.

Toque and Joe Beef are amazing, if you can get a reservation. Club Chasse et Peche, and Dominion Square Tavern are a couple favorites

That's might be true, but do either compare to the vaunted Long Island bagel? I think not.

(The folks at St. Viateur are really sweet, no offense to them. Buy a mug or something.)

its actually a really nice hike up too.
plus you're not by any means far from all the good shops/restaurants/bars.

That's what i like about Montreal. Alot to do within walk-able distances.

Notice I did not suggest bagels. Not as good as Toronto bagels. They are thin, not very leavened with a sweet dough.

This could be a thread unto itself, each region/city arguing why its bagels are best.

Bonjour/Hi. I've had the luck to go to Montreal for work a couple of times the past few years. Absolutely love it. Last summer, my colleague and I ate at a place in your neighborhood called Plein Sud. Corsican-Southern French. Really enjoyed it.

Bagels for sure. St. Viateur and Fairmont are both 24hour and eat them fresh from the wood oven.

Tam Tam. Drumming and Dancing. Come as you want to be and bring your own instrument. Sundays starting at about 11am at the Queen Victoria statue at the base of the mountain.

Dieu du ciel. Best microbrewery in the city. In Miles End.

I know you said no riding but taking a spin on the F1 course is great fun if you can swing it.

Duluth between St-Laurent and St-Denis is a great street for restaurants. I am fond of La Prunelle and La Colombe. Both are BYOW but there is a local SAQ just around the corner.

Club Ballatou on St-Laurent and Mont Royal is a great club for world music and DJ
