Today's 30 miles were just about going out and enjoying the cool morning weather on the Guv'nor.

Gravel ride in Mountainair, New Mexico. My sister and I did some exploring in Deer Canyon Preserve where she lives. Absolutely beautiful. Lots of ups and downs, lots of sun, and surprisingly the wind wasn't howling. Can't ask for more than that!

I'm not really sure how it got there or what happened to the rider. I just saw this lying on the ground there.

I doubt anyone would walk home from there--it's 6 miles down a steep and narrow road just to exit the park, plus however far someone would need to get home.

But what did happen? I have no idea.

This past weekend was the annual Ride For The River in Wilmington, NY, in the heart of the Adirondacks of upstate New York. I work events for Bike Adirondacks (www.bikeadirondacks.com) , the organizers of the event, and so I was able to ride Saturday before following the riders yesterday in a vehicle to get photos of this great event that benefits the Ausable River Association. The association (www.ausableriver.org) works to protect the watershed of the Ausable River, which drains some of the most scenic portions of the high Adirondacks. We had over 100 riders who got to choose between 30 and 45-mile courses that provide some incredible scenery and chances for great cycling photography. I got in 36 miles Saturday myself, riding 15 solo then doing the “Tailgater” ride for 21 more miles, plus pizza and beer after. Yesterday the riders had rest areas during the ride, then a picnic with “Porkbusters” BBQ, live music, and a prize raffle back at Wilmington’s beautiful little town park and beach along the Ausable. It was a great weekend that has me looking forward to the other events I’m working for BikeADK before this summer is over.

My nephew-in-law lives in Israel where he mostly MTBs and gravels, but he's on the Cape with my sister's family and borrowed my BIL's old Trek. We did 53 miles on a humid day with threatening rain but managed to stay dry! Quiet roads - Wareham, Mattapoisett, Acushnet, Rochester, E. Freetown. Good times!

I dropped my Raleigh 20 off at the ferry terminal in Vineyard Haven yesterday, then later rode to Oak Bluffs and took the ferry over. Stayed the night with my other sister, and fixed her bike's malfunctioning drivetrain, then we left to ride early the next morning. He dropped me off back at Woods Hole to take the ferry, but kept the Firefly so I can ride it in 1-1/2 weeks when I'm back on the Cape with a car. From Vineyard Haven I rode the Raleigh 20 home, it's been a while since I've been on that bike, but it's my lock it and forget it bike!

Dave, This brings back memories from long ago. I grew up in Keeseville, NY, about 30 miles from Wilmington in the northern Adirondack Park. Leave Wilmington east thru Jay, Ausable Forks, and Clintonville, and you are in Keeseville, right next to Ausable Chasm. It's close to Lake Champlain. However, I now live in Virginia and haven't been back there in about 40 years. Thanks for the post.
