Not something you usually see on a ride

San Diego Maritime Museum’s HMS Surprise, a 179-foot replica of the 18th century 24-gun British Royal Navy frigate, recently docked at Marine Group Boat Works for routine maintenance in preparation for an inspection by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
Once featured in the academy award-winning film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe....

My friend and I were riding the Gordon Pond trail in Rehoboth this morning and got held up for a security detail, gave us a chance to exchange pleasantries as he rode by. He had a clumsy dismount about 20 minutes later, but he was riding pretty good for pushing 80.

Still feeling "off" today after a bad reaction to the latest Covid booster. So I decided to take out the old Raleigh Team USA for a few miles while snapping some pics. Wound up being out there for 30 miles of changing light and weather. So pics not the best but still a great day. The "gravelish" setup of this 37 year old bike let me hit some gravel areas I normally don't ride.

The bike for today:

Pics along the way:

Looks good James! You have some cool varied places to ride for sure.

Dont know how much elevation change was involved but that looks like some pretty tall gearing on that one for dirt, for sure!

Hope you feel better soon!

Yeah the gearing isn't ideal. It was built originally with an even taller road cassette and running some 700 x 27 tubulars. Then I realized that the old Suntour derailleur could handle that cassette on it now with a 30T large cog even though it looks like a short jockey cage. Threw CX tires on those Fulcrum Racing One wheels and now it's perfect for the gravel roads around the valley. Not much uphill and nothing steep. Although I do sometimes do an 8 mile long Cat 2 climb on one of two 42/26 setups. Probably why my knees are shot, LOL!

A rare June storm system dropped light rain and lowered temperatures across the desert.

No dust!

A few rides on fizik terra gravel oriented tape has me happy so far!

Santa Clarita Truck Trail

Getting some days in with my brother; today we went up to Camp 9 then did a little recon on Santa Clarita Truck Trail for a future big mixed terrain ride.

Paid homage to a fallen brother, pour one out for Panda those who knew him.

Not high-elevation by Colorado standards but a nice and then fairly steep climb from Redstone.
