Tubeless rim tape
Hi all,
When using a 38c tire on a HED Belgium plus rim would a single wrap or tuneless tape work or definitely go double wrapped? I’m using orange seal tape and 35-40 psi for what that is worth. Thanks |

You always want two layers, it's what HED recommends as well.

My experience: Never ever used two layers. Either in my gravel bike (35 psi), nor in my road tubeless (68 psi) and nor in my mtb (18 psi). Always used one layer and it always has worked.

Always 2 layers. Better seal for the rim/spoke holes, and a tighter fit for the bead. 10 sets of wheels, multiple brands, always 2 layers when running tubeless. |

Somewhat related question - What if you're running non-tubeless tire (and tubes) on a tubeless-compatible rim?
I believe you're supposed to use tubeless tape, rather than regular rim tape. But do you still need two layers? Or can you get by with a single layer? (And would a single layer be preferred to make the tire fit a little looser so it's easier to install/remove? You don't need the tight fit for tubeless, right?) |

The only unrepairable (on the road) flat I've had with my tubeless was due to the rim tape giving out over a spoke hole. I now do two passes with tape.

Search for Kapton tape as rim tape. I use multiple layers for both tubed and tubeless for years now. The stuff is so thin and strong, not to mention adhesive very high temp rated.
I do use one layer of Pacenti tubless tape over kapton layers for tubeless over 50 PSI. Not that I prefer Pacenti tape, just not gone thru the ample supply I have...
