Here are some details of the recent randonneur build. The bike was designed with lightweight tubing 7/4/7 top tube and 6/4/6 down tube that tapers from 28.6 at the headtube to 31.7 at the BB. I added fillets to the headlugs then filled them down to create a smoother transitions and an overall thin look as well as modified the Pacenti PBP crown to lessen it's bulk. The frame features integrated lighting with a Velolumino taillight routed through the seat and downtube connecting with the Son SL wiring routed internally through the fork blade out to the Edelux headlight. The bag was a collaboration project between myself and a seamstress friend of mine. I drew up the blue print and she did all the hard work and added a few clever designs herself. Custom bags will now be an option on randonneur frames headed out of my shop. Overall without the bag the bike came in at 22.5 pounds, not bad with 42mm tires and full fenders.

Thank you. My favorite way to do seatstay caps is to create a semi-wrap around the lug using double taper stays so the seat stay is a smaller diameter at both ends compared to the middle section. On certain frames, vertically challenged, I can't use the double taper stays as the taper gets chopped off given the short seat stay length. On this particular frame instead of using a 1" piece of scrap for the concave cap I used a fork blade scrap which created a deeper concave shape. I wasn't sure about it until it all came together but I too love what how it came out.

Did you get that tandem sorted?

Thanks for the detail, that's awesome. Who'da thunk, fork blade scraps. Ingenious!

Still a while before my wife's foot is fully healed and we can put the tandem search in high gear, although finding one to try in our size is proving to be quite a challenge.

I've tried capturing some of the details of the bikes I brought to NAHBS this year. The sunlight really brings out the color on this bike that has been elusive to capture. I think I have finally photographed it's depth. I received high praise for this bike at the show and had the highest honor when a gentleman asked me to sell it to him, then explaining to me that he buys a bike at every show and this year it was between this bike and a Rob English. Unfortunately, this bike was a cm too short on the TT, so he went with the English asking me to come back next time with a 55cm effective TT. I'm honored just to have been in the same room as many of these builders, looking forward greatly to the next one I attend.

Tight miters mixed with good heat control makes for nice lug brazing. Lots of prep work involved to get to this result, now to start on the rear end.

I really like plate style dropouts and there are a limited selection, especially in the stainless variety. Most plate dropouts don't have much room on the tabs to stylize the attachment to the chain and seat stays. I drew out some ideas on paper and had my engineering friend create a CAD drawing. He then 3D printed them so I could make sure they fit my desired criteria then I had them waterjet cut out of 17/4 stainless plate. Now I am happy to say that I have my own dropout that will be on all quick release style frames. I will probably have some done in mild steel as well in the near future and even have an idea to make some thru axle versions.
