Over shorts
A few years ago I would not be caught wearing over shorts but as I have aged I dig more of the everyday Look on my bike
worn over cycling bibs over shorts offer more pockets and add protection in case of a crash I started wearing them when I started trying to ride on trails and gravel Mixing road and off road cultures is cool imho Cheers to all

Besides the practical aspects Fixed mentioned I have found that I get more considerate treatment from motorists when my clothing suggests that I'm just a person trying to get somewhere as opposed to wearing "racing" kit that makes the same motorists annoyed because I am just playing in traffic. Having a big saddle bag or other luggage on the bike adds to the everyman look.

And you should really check the mission shorts measurements—I was pumped when they restocked and I got them but they really don’t fit well for me and I ended up selling them for 1/2 what I paid. |

I’ve been wearing over shorts for the past 12 years. At first it was because I was pretty overweight and looked like a poseur in a kit. My daughters said if I wore spandex, it would be an affront to humanity - and I agreed. I ride with people who really don’t care what I wear, nor do I care what they wear. After losing some weight, I’m not so much an affront to society anymore, but I still wear the shorts. I have a pair of wool riding shorts that I bring out for certain vintage events, maybe twice a year. Whatever works for you works.

OP is that a recent pic?
If so reminds of "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" |

I love wearing overshorts. I do a lot of randonneuring and having overshorts on makes it a lot more comfortable going into rural stores or a rural bar to ask for water. Plus, it adds padding on long rides. Photo is from PBP 2019.
Fixed, I dig your look, esp with the Hawk Hill fog! |

Just rode 39 miles last night in my first pair. Adidas Terrex lite flex shorts. Went great over some basic pearl izumi padded shorts.
Paired with a wool button up "Link" Henley from REI's COOP brand. Was meeting friends for an outdoor picnic and getting some trail time in with a buddy beforehand. Had a pair of sandals in my rando bag with some snacks and drinks. Of course I was sweaty but I was comfortable and fit in on both parts of my journey. |

I like the Elevinpine shorts. They adjust from form fit to loose using velcro and zippers. Good quality. https://www.elevenpine.com/

I will wear them if I am going to the grocery store or ssomething like that so I don't feel like I am naked walking around a store

On a whim, I bought a pair of Kuhl renegade shorts for more casual wear. I soon discovered they make a great over short as they are 1_Quick drying, 2_ plenty of pockets (especially like the side pockets for mobile phone (off bike), 3_ unrestrictive.
YMMV and HTH. https://www.kuhl.com/kuhl/mens/shorts/renegade-short/ |
