Its probably something Banksy created and when you put it on canvas your canvas shreds into pieces

The color reminds me of my house trim, repainted some years ago so I don't consider it much of a new color.

Never forget being DC in August while the National Boy Scout Convention was going on. We were in the National Gallery with 1,000's for smelly (and I mean smelly) 12-14 year old boys running around. There was an Yves Klein retrospective. In the retrospective was an old grainy black and white film being projected in a loop on the wall of nude French prostitutes covered in blue paint rolling around on giant canvases on the floor showing the "how to" of one of Yves important series. With all the chaos of 1000's of smelly Boy Scouts moving about in adolescent excitement there were 4 motionless, mouths wide open, Boy Scouts, uniform and all, staring that grainy black and white film of those nude women covered in paint rolling around on canvases.

You can actually create multiple colors from a single 'pigment' by adsorbing them onto some substrate in varying thickness. TiO2 (typically as rutile or anatase) on mica will change from reds to greens etc. with different application thickness. This is essentially metalflake or pearlescent auto paint, for example. Lots of crazy stuff they can do with that.

That new stuff sure is a nice shade of blue, though.

And speaking of how rare blue pigment is in nature:

Many people have "blue" eyes - or at least it looks that way. In reality, there is no blue pigment in blue eyes - it's really just a trick of the light (much like how the sky looks blue).

New pigment, but that particular color has been around for a while. Hampsten Cycles has been using it for years. My carbon Hampsten is that color. Porsche calls it Voodoo Blue.

That blue's nice, but IMO nothing beats eggplant. Tough to find just that right balance between too dark and too light, but every now and then you'll find one in the produce section that really stands out.

Years ago when I was looking for options for my Waterford 2200 I found a PPG Radiance 2 color that was very nice and had them use that - "Fluorescent blue over brickyard red." (looks a bit too brown in the bottom image)

My thoughts too!

I read a book a few years ago, fiction, but the title escapes me right now. It was about a special indigo paint pigment that was passed down through the centuries and had some magical qualities. It was set in France. Part of the introduction of the story was how blue pigments in ancient times were rare and highly prized.

Anyway, definitely need some Gios here
