How do Vittora Corsa tubs stack up these days?

In comparison to the veloflex carbons, are the vittoria corsa evo cx better than half as good as the vflex? I can get them for about half the price of carbons.

I know the vflex are good but they are pricier. I know that you largely get what you pay for but was just wondering if I could save some money. Do the vittorias glue up straight, without any lumps in them?

CX's are a great tire and a great value when compared to the Veloflex's. I have them on a couple of bikes and they ride terrific. I usally pay around 30% less for the CX's compared to the Veloflex's.

Nashbar (yah I know) has Vittoria CRs for $34 bucks each.
I don't have experience with them are they any good? worth
the price for everyday training type tire?

I have to admit that I use CXs for all of my racing and training. At only 150lb, I don't stress them out too much. I usually get about 3,000 mi. out of a rear and about 5,000 mi. out of a front. As often as not, I wear through the tread and begin to see the casing before I flat.

Having said that, the high end Veloflexes are as fine a tire as there is out there of the generally available tubulars. For me though, the price of the Vittorias gets me as nice a tire as I need. After the Allentown Sportsfest race yesterday, I can say with assurance that NOTHING corners as well as a CX. Ask the other guys in my race about turns three and four on the last lap.

Deda Olimpico are nice. Should be able to find them for $5 to $10 more
than the Vittoria. Made in Italy, look just like Veloflex.

some of the old dudes around here say that the Vittoria tubulars aren't as good as they used to be, since they outsourced the manufacturing.

I repeat it as if it were a mantra: Veloflex is the king of tubulars. The problem with Vittoria these days is more one of quality control. Most of the tires are pretty good...almost as good as a veloflex....but they are much more likely to develop base tape peeling....have a lumpy spot....or a slight wobble in the tread.

I'm a die-hard tubie. Been using Vittora CX for many years and absolutely love these tubes (have never experienced clinchers... and don't plan to).

My CXs generally wearout before they puncture... and always the rear before the front. Only problem I had recently (which was my fault) was not laying down enough glue on my new Campy Neutrons wheels. This caused a slightly detectable sound everytime the wheel depressed the surface of the road. I've reglued the spot (without having to reglue the tire) which seems to have helped.

Vittora CXs are my choice but are expensive (~$90), would love to find a better source... anyone know a place that sells CX for a much lower price?

Never tried the Veloflex... perhaps I should treat myself one of these days.

$90 !! that's high, especially if buying in pairs.

Grant where are you getting the Deda Tres? I've found them rather
difficult to track down, not many retailers have them.

They look identical to veloflex, I think they're made there.

You're correct... I missed quoted the CX prices... closer to $79 not $90.

For those of you that are Veloflex fans... which style is perferable to everyday training? What difference might I expect when compared to my CXs, i.e., comfort, durabilty, cornering, price?

Is it worth the additional $20?
