Sheet. A sheet of Titanium. That is what I see. Rolled then welded and ground down. The ride quality? Maybe as mentioned above it was a long time ago...

thats how colnago's supplier formed the ovalmaster's DT out of 6/4 Ti and lynskey does the DT on my Ti pro-cross.

I think since the 6/4 titanium basically started out as a sheet rather than a tube, going with these 'airfoil' downtubes made some sense. I think Merckx also had one like that back in the day - the Millenium model.

Yes, the Slingshot was a wet noodle. I bought one used years ago to try it out. It was comfy when riding in a straight line but any hard cornering would result in massive torsional flex. Very unnerving so I sold it pretty quickly. I have a friend that has one built up as a commuter. Probably the best application for it.

They are flexy as hell and you could feel them swing from side to side, super weird sensation.
