Agreed! I've been in and out of the watch game (esp Rolex) for over 20 yrs, and can recall owning a few (bought and sold long ago) that are currently over valued.

I've tried moving away from sport and dive watches, but always returned.

I’ve been hoping for coke or pepsi. Jubilee bracelet would be ideal, as I already have a diver with an oyster bracelet.

Should’ve bought one when I started looking three years ago

That is a great watch! Thanks for sharing.

I went through the Swiss / German mechanical watch thing for about 10 years. Probably bought and sold about 100 like commodities and almost always made money. Then one day I looked in the watch box, realized I had a bunch of very expensive jewelry and sold them off. It's kind of like selling all of your bikes.

But I still liked watches, so I decided to collect watches that divers actually wore when divers wore dive watches rather than computors. That generally means Seiko and Citizen, who were the leaders in dive watch innovation. Cousteau and his crew wore Rolex dive watches because Rolex sponsored their expedition.

If you want to go down the Tuna rabbit hole, here are a couple of good articles.

https://monochrome-watches.com/histo...na-dive-watch/

https://thespringbar.com/blogs/guide...lectors-guide/

https://prowatches.com/seiko-tuna-a-...robust-models/

Since this is a bike forum , here are a few for fun.

And since this is a bike forum, here are a few photos. BTW watch collectors are just as weird and obsessive as bike collectors.

Ok - who would be the Patek or a A. Lange and Sons?

Do you use them for daily-wear, or just special occasions?

I don't know if I'd be brave enough to use them even for something as basic as everyday office work.

I wear the 1979 GMT most every day. Wearing it allows me to keep my brother close even though he passed in December 2015.
The Submariner gets worn a few times a year…..

How do you go about selling or figuring out what a watch is worth? My wife has a version of a Rolex for ladies with blue chrystal, and a gold Balm Mercier. She hasn't worn either in many years, and the Rolex still runs perfecly. Neiher hardly show use.

Above that , watchuseek or watchpatrol will likely give an idea.

I bought a grey market Sub in 1993 for about ~$2,250 when i was 20 years old. I wore that thing everyday, even broke the internals once mountain biking.

To this day it still looks great and best of all, is worth a heck of a lot more than i paid for it.

Sadly, i hardly wear it any longer.
