My son, who plays both classical upright bass & the electrified version, likes these two in particular:
Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam
Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

Both sound great to this untrained ear

The bass is for people who can't make it as guitar players, right?

haha, just kidding. I love me a good bass line. Even a simplified guitar part that sounds like it could be a bassline, like some of Frusciante's stuff is great.

The Stranglers - Peaches was the first that came to mind. Memorable.

And for the best Bassline where the word Bassline is in the title:

So what’s your favorite?

Think was the song I put on this morning when I heard, too. I'd forgotten how amazing that bass line is!

Stevie Wonder albums have some great bass lines, Higher Ground was mentioned, I Wish has a good one too.

Not actually played on a bass, but how about Flashlight by Parliament!

Bring on the funk!

Good pop=good bass line, since it drives the melody as well...

DayTripper by the Beatles is a good one--sounded dramatic when new...

Actually, it was Chuck Berghofer, another well-respected journeyman.
