full fenders for a road bike riding in the rain are a real pleasure. agree that offroad and in muck/mud they are definitely a liability.

just installed an ass-saver for this weekend. also put on a set of mtb pedals, which i havent used seriously in years and years, but i think road shoes might also be a liability this year.

Heads up from the peanut gallery......
I have been riding our dirt roads a lot the last few weeks. We have very similar roads to that part of Mass, and we have had the same weather recently as well.
There are multiple washed out areas from all the rain, with deep ruts.
The town Highway folks have started filling them, but because the underlying surface is so wet the dirt fill stays very thick and gooey. It will slow you dramatically, and if the road surface is angled you will slide down in it.

So be careful and have a great time out there.

I will never use fenders on gravel again. I had a piece of debris ride up my rear tire, get stuck in the fender and lock up the wheel. If it would have been the front tire I would have been seriously hurt. Ass saver is a good idea though.

I am headed out this afternoon as well to camp out tonight.

Will be riding a light blue Parlee most likely, look for that or a black & blue Spartans jersey (local cycling group) and say hi!

If y'all are really interested in meeting other forum pals, someone should take the lead in arranging a designated time/place at the start. If not, "please look out for my jersey and bike and say Hi" is not gonna cut it. There are too many people there.

Red Salsa Cutthroat with aerobars, here.

180k, if the weather holds up.

I'll be the one in the jersey with the skunk strip of mud up the back.
