For an obsecure one but worth noting, Frankie goes to Hollywood’s cover of Born to Run has an incredible bass solo.
https://youtu.be/sqbwOyr5Alc Suprised no of the Primus / Fugazi camp has not tipped the hat to Lemmy. If you like it Ace of Spades is where that began (mostly). https://youtu.be/uz8SgsECysc And no Sly and the family stone? Thats where the funk ended for me. It started with King Curtis The beginning https://youtu.be/ukOs3am7CtE To the end https://youtu.be/6Ptrc2cWRxU

Aston Barrett is probably one of my favorite bassists of all time. IMO, The studio stuff pales in comparison to his playing on live recordings. He could really work a bass line both rhythmically and harmonically. I’ve heard him play the same song multiple ways with distinctly different lines and approaches. Always with a devastating groove.

No double bass fans???
So What Miles Davis The earliest example I can think of of bass playing the theme. Less iconic than the version on Kind of Blue, but I actually like the way the Second Great Quintet ended up playing it. Over time the tempos kept increasing. With Tony Williams on drums these young cats were off to the races. |

Quote:
"Please don't grow up to marry a bass player" was all I could think. But, yeah, Foxton was killer in that vein. |
