Sorry (not sorry) Dan, but this one utterly rules. A Steibel will be in the quiver at some point, no doubt. Some people, they are just so effing predictable.

I think a dream road bike would need to be electronic shifting over disc brakes. For a gravel or cross bike, disc makes sense...

I still prefer either one of these two.

SB/03

RODANO

That said, I do wonder what the "copied/quoted from the internet versus actually owned/ridden" ratio for Stelbels is.
It seems very high.

The more off-road descending I do with near life/death experiences, the more I think I should have gone with a SB03 and a proper mountain bike!

My gravel bike is awesome, but the bay area is just not flat enough for half measures.

More than nice paint (and big stays)?

Thread-Jack - sorry.

I too am curious when I see a pic of the SB03. But can't say that I'm willing to buy one.

There a a number of brands that looks so good on the internet but just can't get my head around their experience - Stelbel and Jaegher to name two. Added more after this year's NAHBS - Deanima for instance. Stelbel is a great example of a bunch of these brands, with loose ties to old craftsman but who really is making the bikes today?

For high-end small production, a few gold-standards stand out: IF, Moots, and Seven for example. Add to that (relative) new-comers like Baum, Mosaic, and No22. Festka is one I've pretty much added to my list. For me comes down to lots of bikes out there + embracing/advertising how they come about. I'd like to add Stelbel but if I search on SB03, seems like the same five bikes are shown over/over in Google/Images.

Anyone else share these thoughts? Or have good info the share specifically on Stelbel? Jaegher is an example where the word on these forums at least really gives pause. Genuine question, not trying to poop in the punch bowl. The SB03 that opened the thread looks so good. But scary to think about buying one.

Fair point. And that's not a turd in a glass of milk by any means. I have a lot of dreams. Frequent and vivid.

What I need to see is a Hampsten Il Mostro Brutta kitted out with the same Campy SR HO group and Boras, with matchy-matchy finishing kit.

THAT would take over the dream spot.

Well, plus I need an Onesto...who doesn't?

I also dream of a simple Lobster Tig'd machine; all business and sentimentality.

And some snappy ti of course. Need that base covered too.

Yes. Those are logical questions. The answers, unfortunately, seem very unicorn.
