ah I should have looked better. Looking now.

edit - Those are pretty affordable. I like the gray color too. Of course they are all sold out and I am betting they won't be back for a while.

Yeah going from 54 to 58 is very hard to understand.

It is completely opposite of what I was expecting. Strangely enough, seems a bit more stable than the SBC 7005 I built up in Sept but I’m thinking that has more to do with the 38s. SBC are definitely hitting the right marks with their aluminum offerings. Of course, the only takeaway as already mentioned is their geometry. The HT on this (58cm) 6061 is 190 which is taller than what I like. I threw on a no stack carbon headset top bearing cover but I’ll be swapping in a -10 or -12 stem as well to dial in my fit.

Course is awesome. First 30miles have to be some of the best mixed surface riding in the world, the middle is really bumpy (including the climb/descent to/from Montezuma Pass) and the last third is really windy on the open plains. I would do it again but my 700x38c tires felt a bit small. A 700x43c or 650b setup would really have been a better match for the terrain. I think I also under-estimated the course starting at altitude (4000ft) and going up from there.

Hey that looks familiar! From February - last fun trip before pandemic. Great riding there. I had 25’s on that day so the descent was a little hairy at times.

Now for something a little different. I happened on this Surly frame for a good price. Had almost all parts except a rear wheel which I got from a good friend. Sort of hodge podge of parts but I like it—simple, quiet, and super fast/easy build up. Never had a brakeless fixie before (plenty of seat time on a fixed gear though). This may be my midlife crisis project. No bar spins or riding fakie for me though.

2 demerits for brake tracks on the rims.

Redeem yourself by putting lights on the spokes or streamers from those empty bar ends.

Do you mind reporting on the 7005? Cool that you have their gravel and road offerings.
