Yeah. Colby Pierce has an extensive discussion of shoes on his pod. Sidi? Well, they are a fashion statement with a good sole. If you can live with the narrow toe, good for you.
Bonts are ugly af. But, they have really nice forefoot room. Their footbeds suck, but if you put a real footbed in them, they're amazing. Almost too stiff.
The heatmolding thig is limited. Make sure they're close out of the box, but if they are, they're really nice.
Lamson etc are better but not at mortal price.

I experimented with the Bont Helix, and i think the closure system is problematic on that model for my foot. I prefer less pressure over the ball of the foot, and more over the ankle / mid-foot so getting the right heel / mid-foot and forefoot was impossible. I will probably try Vaypor S next year as Bont is much stiffer and feels more immediate - we're talking fine grades of difference here - than other shoes and I think the molding, once you figure it out (time, temperature, tools) works. I think Bont's also feel more expensive than other brands, in a hand-made kind of way; I know others feel differently.

Have both. Vaypor s more comfy, Helix more racy. The thing about Bonts is that you run them what feels like loose. They don't slip and nothing moves, but its disconcerting if you are used to a standard euro last.

For my Roman shaped foot I like the Lake CX201. I wish it had an additional Boa closure, but regardless, this is the most comfortable cycling shoe I've ever worn.

DMT KR0 -- Flat out the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. Not a single hot spot anywhere. Light, stiff and micro adjustable. Have worn Specialized, Lake, Sidi, and Shimano in the past - both road specific as well as triathlon specific versions.

Sidi's are best for me - perfect everywhere. Giro and Mavic a
fairly close second, but heel (too low) and width (too wide)
keep them second.

Currently RC7 and Sphyre both in wide. Only thing that has worked for me. Lake aren't wide enough where I need them to be. Can't really swallow the cost of entry to try Bont.

Sidi for me too. I've been using some version of the Genius since it came out. They fit me well, super comfortable, as much performance as I need, and they last for a long time.

My secret is that I don't even buy new ones. The design really hasn't changed much in decades, so buying a particular year isn't important to me. I just wait to find a mostly-fresh looking used pair in my size and pounce.

Another vote for Bont. I've ridden and enjoyed both the Vaypor and Helix, but give a slight edge to the Vaypor. Once it's been heat molded (often 2 or 3 times) the fit is unbeatable for me, and so secure that I can ride with the Boa dials fully loosened if the feet need some time to breathe.

And the stiffness and power transfer is INCREDIBLE.

I have the giro slx. It's stupid crazy light but within 1.5 years of reasonable use I've gotten a cracked sole, heelpads that need to be replaced, torn-up toes. So, wouldn't get it agin. I've been looking for shoes that have wider toe boxes and while they look super pointy, they're actually kind of spacious (probably because there isn't much material filling up the shoe). Lake might be next...

I love the DMT KR0s, and now they are on sale for half price on quite a few places. Thinking of hoarding them really, stiff, lightweight and very comfortable mesh, but is it really such a good idea to leave shoes in the box in the garage? No clue if the glue degrades over time, and I am better off buying the latest model whenever my current pair break down on me.

My favorite among the ones I've tried (Adidas, Northwave, Shimano, Specialized) was the Northwave (SBS, ca. 2008 with the wood sole) except the right shoe was about a half size too small.

I was close to getting some Bonts but decided to cut to the chase and go with Lamson. Just sent my fit kit in yesterday and can't wait til spring to try them out.

Can you post the sites you're seeing them 1/2 price. I'd like to hoard some as well!

Bikecloset has some in the Giro colorway, stared at them for a good few weeks, ended up buying another bike...

Lake for the win if you have wide feet. The 242’s have two boas with separate straps, so forefoot section can accommodate my big bunions. I can’t speak to differences in series fits, but they recommend the Cx-242 for “problem” feet. I’ve never been this comfortable in 35 years of riding.

My top shoe has been the old Fizik R1 Uomo - the one made from kangaroo leather with 2 sail cloth velcro straps and a micro buckle. They are heavy but have a better/higher arch support than any other cycling shoe I've owned. Since then I've had the Fizik R3 Aria and the Fizik R1 Infinito. This year I started experiencing Morton's Neuroma in one foot and the Uomo has been the best shoe for it. But today I just tried the Lake CX238 for the first time and it was pretty great. I think the extra room in the toe box is going to be a good thing in helping me get over this Morton's Neuroma once and for all.

If anyone out there knows of a shoe that fits like the old Fizik R1 Uomo, with that kind of arch, I am all ears. Also if anyone knows of any insoles that would beef up the arch support I'd love to hear it too.
