Paypal Fees

So i eyed over my recent paypal transactions as they have been somewhat large.

Paypal charged me 5.4% cirka on my latest item i sold on ebay. This is not including ebay fees. Ebay charges a whopping 12.5% on top of this. How is it possible that the 2 of them together take almost a fifth of the entire sale including shipping (lol). ?

Its been bathering me for a while but the fee keeps going up and i think im about ready to ditch both pp and ebay. Especially pp after talking to customer service about this and the guy was like, em yeah well but its ebay fees and its international yada yada he had no clue what he was talking about and when i told him its not ebay fees as they charge me a seperate bill each month he said oh well i dunno but you can read about it all on our webpage, all the fees are listed there. I said i tried to but it dident make any sense thats why im calling you? He just said well i dont know what to tell you these are the corrrect fees but umm not really sure why its the 5.4 but its either ebay fees or international fees etc etc. He was really poor and would not connect me to someone else who perhaps could explain to me why i was beeing charged these procentages.

Rant over..

What are the alternatives today for paypal? Surely there mush be a competitor that does not need to charge 5.4 % on each transaction?

I am using this more and more, but am limited to folks who have it...which is growing, but not as widely accepted yet.

But yeah I haven't sold much stuff on ebay in a long time and whenI sold a 29er+ bike I was shocked at how much i ended up with in the end. Makes you hesitant to sell big ticket items, hence my trying to entice ANYONE here with the stuff i have for sale.

Pretty sure the fees are still 3% for domestic transactions. Looks like it starts at 4.4% for outside of the US, then depends on currency.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...ansaction-fees

PayPal still seems to have the strongest buyer and seller protections built in, vs. something like Venmo that may not charge as much of a fee.

The main moral of this story is not to sell on eBay.

Just wait. I think I remember eBay is going to partner with adyen at the end of the year and drop PayPal as the exclusive payment intermediary.

It will get worse

Didn't eBay already drop Paypal as the primary payment method?

A few months ago I started noticing that eBay was offering to let me pay with CC without using Paypal. Maybe part of the transition or something.

No, just between accounts in U.S.

"Zelle is a U.S.-based digital payments network owned by Early Warning Services, a private financial services company owned by the banks Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank and Wells Fargo.[1] The Zelle service enables individuals to electronically transfer money from their bank account to another registered user's bank account (within the United States) using a mobile device or the website of a participating banking institution."

Nope. It’s silly and part of eBays push to turn its market place into a market for bigger sellers

Edit
Change won’t happen until 2021 and adyen wont be mandatory but it’s still going to be worse than PayPal.
