Slightly off topic but I'm at a loss to understand the time lag from collection to announcement. The sample in this case was from June. It's October now. The lab tests take no time at all to process. What causes this glacial return of findings?

It appears there a number of others up on the USADA website. On the first page, my favorite was the archer who tested positive for THC (and something else), forfeiting $52,000 in prize money. I had no idea there was good prize money in archery.

Due process takes time, even for cheaters.

Analysis of A sample
Inform athlete
Athlete has time to reply asking for B sample to be tested or agree to finding (as per archery case)
B Sample tested
Hearing
Decision Issued

Looking at the archery decision the infraction occurred in February and was not settled until September, so June to October is quick.

The competitive shooting sports are rife with it. Beta blockers and the like. The time frame for that processing/suspension announcement is pretty average for USADA/USAC stuff.

I think archers who dope would want to take beta blockers to steady their aim. However, maybe that's why this archer took THC.

Sadly, not going to happen. Too many large, fragile egos out there. On the positive side, I have noted that several formerly fast masters racers have either stopped racing or are now way down in the standings. The threat of a positive drug test (and subsequent internet shaming) seems to be cause for reconsidering their "supplements." They may just have to live with "low T" like the rest of us old guys.

well if we can't get to Less Masters Doping, I'd happily settle for Less Dopers Racing as a compromise

After watching my mother die from liver disease I always feel like telling the Roid-Boyz in the gym that there aren't too many worse ways to go. But I think my comment would be met with "Yeah but check out these lats!"

Master Dopers

One more reason I'm glad I'm not racing anymore. The desire to be faster makes people do stupid things to their bodies.

my weightlifting brother in law always used to say "die young and leave a beautiful corpse." Unfortunately, he did die young, but ALS doesn't leave you beautiful.

Seems like a 45 y.o. masters doper is flirting with the problem that most popular PEDs promote cancer. And I wouldn't want to do anything to lower my body's ability to generate testosterone.

I decided that I would never race again when I heard about someone dying in a crash. But getting fast enough to be pack fodder seems pretty unlikely at this point. I did it once when I was in my 30's, and then circumstances were such that I didn't start racing again. It was a real struggle to achieve that fitness back then.
