Garmin 1030 Touch Screen

Bought a used 1030 and am feeling my way around the unit.
Bought unseen, I see there is a darkened oval centered on the screen. I assume this is from all of the previous swipes the previous owner did.
Is there any way to clear this spot up or is it “etched” into the display?

any chance it's a faulty, crappy screen protector?

otherwise i got nothing...and having used my 1030 for quite some time i can't imagine swiping would etch the screen. but maybe.

on the other hand both my Garmin and my phone are always treated to tempered glass screen protectors.

Can you take a photo? I have an 830 and can’t imagine the screen wearing from being touched/swiped.

Garmin 1030 Touch Screen

Best thing you can do for a Garmin is put a screen protector on it. The screen scratches much easier than a phone.

I've had a 1030 for years. I swipe all the time; no scratches and no dark spot.

FWIW, Garmin can replace the screen for you if needs be.

Are you sure it isn’t a halo on the edges of the screen? It’s a common issue, they replaced mine for free.

Too much glare outside, so taken on living room floor.

I just searched ‘Garmin Halo’ and it looks like that’s the issue.
Now I’m rather pissed. I bought this from the store manager at a local bike shop. It was his personal unit. He deals with Garmin. He should have had this fixed on his own.
When I picked the device up, he did a factory reset, then turned the unit off before handing it over to me.
For me, there’s no warranty. I think we need to have a talk.
At least I wrote a check to the bike shop.

No one asked, but price was $250 for head unit only.
With cataracts forming and just having been diagnosed with glaucoma, last thing I need to be questioning is if it’s the unit or my sight going bonkers.

That’s the halo some get. Mine has the same thing but I haven’t contacted them yet. Buddy got his replacement from garmin after emailing.
It doesn’t really bother me but drove him nuts.

I would check with Garmin. I bought a used 520 on the forum and it had a bad connection in the charging port. I emailed Garmin and they sent exchanged with a new one for free. All they needed was proof I bought it from the original owner and they took the PayPal receipt without a problem.

Ask the guy you bought it from to check into a warranty replacement. If he is the original owner, I’d bet Garmin would replace the unit with a refurbished one. One thing I can say about Garmin is that it’s customer service is excellent. I’ve had various Garmin products replaced under warranty. The last time I had an issue with an Edge, it was clearly out of warranty. The service rep said “I hate it when things stop working like they are supposed to” and sent me a warranty replacement at no cost.

If you go to the guy you got it from and ask him to do it, there is no issue with you not being the original owner.

Seller is out of town.
I’ll check with him upon return.
Thanks to all that replied.
