He's talking about the special pins Shimano supplies with chains with the snap-off guide. You should never reinstall a factory pin once you push it out.
Nor if you take a chain apart to clean it, then use a new pin..don't push out the old pushed in, break off guide, pin..those plates can survive just one pin push thru..not 2..
