I'd say $800-$1000. It is essentially a legend ti and record 8spd is still a desirable group to some of us. Looks to be in excellent shape.

On a bit of a tangent - that caliber of bike would indicate a pretty dedicated rider, wonder what would make him give it up?

Money doesn't imply taste or dedication to riding. Good taste in bikes, though.

Having both bought and sold similar early and large Serotta Ti’s over the past year, I’d say $750 is a heck of a deal for you, $1000 is a solid sale for him. Stick with $850.

It’s tough to find a nicer ride than this for that kind of money.

I didn't know 8 speed campy was so desirable. How does its value compare with 9 and 10 speed Campy? I had a 60cm Legend with 10 speed DA and a 1" threadless O2 fork and it was a wonderful bike. Assuming that an F1 fork won't accept a tire wider than 25mm how much will that affect the market value and/or the suitability for the original poster?

And all those professional racers today, who use smaller gears (and go faster then we used to in the old days)? Weaklings, all of them!
Actually, if you can find it, Miche makes an 8 speed cassette with 13-28 gearing for Campy splined rear hub: 13-14-15-17-19-21-24-28

I see there's a place called the Bicycle Hero, never heard of it, that has it in stock for under $40!

You can find it on ebay too!

Of course, YMMV!

Good Luck!

This seems exactly right, and I have the same bike from 1997 with Campy Record 10 so I should know.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inquiry about the value of the used Serotta I'm thinking of purchasing. Your advice was extremely helpful.

is it 130mm spacing?

is it 130mm spacing? that is the big factor
Has if less there goes chance to run 9 speed up
Yes rear triangle can be spread but that is always a bit of hope it all goes ok deal
