OT: Bubble Tea???
I guess it's a thing? Tasty, but kind of weird.
Our children have been staying with us over the break and talked us into trying it out at a local shop. Anyone else into Bubba Tea? At least the shop is across the street from a bike shop. I got to check out the latest while slurping up bubbles of sugar flavoring. ) W. |

Timely Thread
I'll be your Guinea pig, there's a few shops around that I've been meaning to try.
This page has the history of it and what you're in for if you try it, a good read: https://guide.michelin.com/en/articl...arl-milk-trend |

What kind of drink did you have? Typically classic bubble tea has been milk tea with tapioca bubbles. I would recommend trying a black milk tea with tapioca bubbles if you have the chance!

Had it many times. It's sweet, too much for me, but my daughter loves it. I prefer the chai boba tea. Boba Guys in SF has lines down the street for this delicacy.
I make it at home now too. You can get the boba online from amazon. |

not for me
but wife and son love boba tea smoothie things, mainly mango, been buying those things whenever we happen to be somewhere and "oh, there's a boba tea place", since 2006!

I love the stuff. Tends to have a ton of sugar, though, so that's a thing...

I have
I am Vietnamese and live in Houston, which has the second largest Asian population in the U.S.
Bubble tea has been the rage here for over 10 years. Thought it was a fade but it continues. Some shops can adjust the sweetness level per your request. I go 1/3 of their regular level. Also try the mini-balls if they have it. They also have different flavored balls (mango, coffee, etc) so you can get real creative. Let your imagination run free. |

I grew up in Singapore, and I remember it became a thing when I was a kid. Fast forward to the US 20-30 years later, and it looks like it's a thing in some parts of the US. I hadn't seen it on the East Coast when I was there, but there are a few places in Minneapolis (large SE Asian population).
Interestingly, Boba/bubble tea seems to have originated in Taiwan, which is majority Chinese. Not sure how it spread to the rest of SE Asia. I will definitely drink it on occasion, but it's not one of my go-tos. |

I drink it quite a bit. Mostly the black tea milk with no sugar added. I find the boba makes it sweet enough.
Sometimes, no boba, no sugar. |
