Kurt Kinetic slotted cone cup

I am seeing a number of Kurt Kinetic trainers on the used market with only the standard cone cups. Does the standard cup offer the same level of security/ support as the slotted one?

This page says they're fine.

Either should be fine depending on your frame, more of an issue of clearance than security. On my bike I had to upgrade to the slotted cone cup to clear my frames dropouts. Either way Kinetic sells replacement adaptors for ~$10 or so on their website and are available from other vendors too.

Get the slotted cup. It will clear the QR skewer lever, both sides. Mine does the job just fine.

I always thought the slotted cup was for if you wanted to use a regular qr and mount your bike in the kurt trainer......and the standard cone cup was for if you use the “trainer skewer”.

I use my CAAD10 as my trainer bike and I have always made it my routine to swap my real qr out for the silver kinetic skewer and mount the bike with the standard cone cup. I am also anal about not riding the kinetic skewer outdoors so i swap back my regular qr in the spring before my first outside ride.

Per KK site: "This cone cup is designed to work best when used with the Kinetic Skewer included in the box with every trainer. Be sure to place the cam-end of the skewer in the slotted cone cup."
