The clouds broke just at the right time.
Cameras ready and set up everywhere but nothing beats looking straight from the human eye, it was quite a spectacle. I wouldn't even try and post any of my pictures, they are weak compared to the real thing.

Yup, no pictures do it justice. Glad it worked out for you!

Not a cloud in the sky here in St Louis. (I should say, none anywhere near the sun.)
Personally, I think the "weird light" is more interesting than the sun itself. (and safer to look at) |

I’m hiding in my basement let me know when it’s safe to come out.

Yup. We got interesting shadows as a consolation prize:

Maximum coverage was 87%. I wore shorts. I got a little chilly, and I think I got a sunburn on my pasty white Scots legs.

Looking at the entire image, it looks like Elvis and the Phantom of the Opera smoking a hookah.

93% here, definitely very cool.
I remember one like this in high school, but we didn't have the Eclipse glasses. If my son was right I will be 68 next time this happens. |

I wonder what the chickens over at my neighbors thought of the whole thing...

I said I won't share any pictures....but just to give you a rough idea, here's what on my phone gallery. Pretty crappy to be honest.

My iphone pictures came out worse, I tried to use it with the glasses as a solar filter and it didn't work. Those pictures are pretty good.
You can supposedly damage cameras. And smartphones don't even have a physical shutter, so it's just burning the sun right into the sensor. I wish I had a solar filter for my DSLR but I would have wanted to get one for my telephoto lens and it would be ~$100 cause it's big and that would definitely be a filter that barely got used. |

Multiple cloud layers here in SYR meant that the actual view of the moon covering the sun was almost nonexistent. It was interesting to see darkness at 3:23PM. The birds stopped singing and all the streetlights came on. Then back to work...

I ended up staying home. Regretting not going, but 98% was kind of neat. Dark and the temp dropped noticeably. My 6 yo wanted nothing to do with it, but I hope he looks back on it when the next one happens and remembers his afternoon with dad on the deck.
