XT 6-bolt rear hub with shimano 11s MTB cogset?

Geez, I don't know, asking for a gent(and me)..can't find it on the interweb.

XT 780 series, 6 bolt/QR rear hub..10s, is it shimano MTB 11s cogset compatible? I know it's not road 11s compatible.

I'd like to go latest and greatest if I can. From what I know, the 8000 has a better ratchet. However, I believe the freehub is 9/10 sized still. Let me know what you discover.

It should be compatible, different than road to get to 11

Put them on a few bikes and there was no issue

Is there a difference between a "10s road" freehub body and an "11s mountain" body? I thought the only difference was the design of the 11s mountain cassette, which is the shape of the carrier of the large cogs that allows it to clear the hub shell to fit 11 cogs.

8000 series rear hub is a better hub..but both 740 amd 8000 are MTB 9/10s..8000 11s MTB, I believe 740 series is too.

It was more or less rhetorical. As far as I can tell there isn't a difference in the freehub body. So, unless the hub flange is abnormally large an 11s mountain cassette should work. I'm not certain at what point an 11s cassette goes from "road" to "mountain" in Shimanoland. 36t large cog? 40t?

There absolutely is. 11s Road cassettes are taller than an 11s mtb cassette and will NOT fit on a 9/10/11s mtb shimano freehub.

If you're looking for something to use for a disc cx bike, this makes things a pain. I dont think there are any 11-32 or 11-36 11s 'mtb' cassettes - would be nice if there was.

The road freehub body is longer. Thats why the road cassette wont fit on a mtb freehub.

DT Swiss hubs can be converted, but you need new end caps (DS & NDS) along with the freehub.

Dude, we know there is a difference between 11s road freehub bodies and everything else. The question is "is there a difference between an 11s MTB (aka Shimano Dynasys 11 Speed Mountain) and an 10s road freehub". The precise question is in bold a few posts above.

I know, asking about a MTB 11s cogset onto a 740 series, XT hub.

from what I have been researching recently because I was trying to find a disc road shimano hub (not a lot out there).

shimano mtb 11 speed is same space as 10 so it works on 10 speed hubs but the new 11 speed mtb cassettes start at 40T biggest cog.


and as mentioned 11 speed road wont fit on 10 speed hub, you won't be able to thread the lockring.

That's not correct. The cassette stack height for 11s mountain and 11s road is the same. What makes a an 11s mountain cassette fit on a 10s road freehub body is the fact that the carrier of the large cogs enables the largest cog to sit OVER the hub flange. Essentially, you are moving the cassette further to the center line of the wheel than an 11s road cassette is able to sit.
