Wonder how long that's been going on!

Getting my Litespeed Blue Ridge ready for a spring ride, noticed that the seatpost collar had been mickey moused and was on its way to failure.

Looks like someone used a bolt with a head too large for the shoulder.

Glad it didn't fail on the trails!

...wonder if *I* did that!

I ruined a bolt on a little Spec stem on my son’s bike and threaded a bigger bolt into the body of the stem (similar to your collar).

It haunted me that I would do that on my son’s bike! I took it off and recycled the stem (which was painful as the stem was pretty good quality and nearly new)

Good pickup!

Not sure it's obvious in the photo...but the collar is cracked at that shoulder!

PSA: JBWeld is not a suitable repair option for stripped threads on a stem.

Good catch. And fortunately this is an easy fix - remove and replace entire unit.

Yep. That collar is now in the trash bin and a tidy Phil Wood collar went for its first ride in the woods yesterday.

Sometimes it's useful to have a small stockpile of spare bits!
