V-brakes and Campy levers stop well, but they really lack for feel and modulation. I THINK the problem may be that a lot of Campy levers are built for making leverage with short pull road brakes. This leads to 8.4s feeling really spongy and a kind of on/off modulation with little in between.

... so does anyone know if I can use Campy brake shoes with the models listed earlier?

The TRP 8.4 / 9.0 take shimano pads

same experience with 8.4 and Force...it is the way that it is.
