Check out this dent pulling tool

Came across this. Never saw this tool before.
Thought crossed my mind in applying to dented steel frames but would it compromise the integrity?
I'll let the frame builders comment on that.

I seen something similar done with motorcycle gas tanks which are fabricated from soft sheet steel. The method looks a little brutal for thin chromoly tubing.

I know that Audi and Jaguar use this method on aluminum frames and body panels. It's super time consuming for cars but it works great. There are videos of Both companies using this style online.

I didn't watch the whole thing, are you talking about where they weld something on? Tube rolling blocks work pretty well and don't mess up the steel. Either way, the paint is gone

Go to 3:50 on the video timeline and you'll see the dent pulling tool.

okay, I did see that. They weld the tip to the part and pull. Not a good thing for frames.

Not sure why he just didn't roll out the dent from the inside.

Not sure this method on a bike tube might not harden and create stress risers leading to cracking, worse than a dent filled with bondo one might argue.

+1for tube rolling
Worked at a bike shop where I saw the head mechanic rolled out a frame
Plus welding and pulling the weld spot overheats the tube. Probably heating the tube more than the frame builder would like.

Thanks for turning me on to this.

I guess I'll be spending the rest of the week watching the rest of his videos.

Pretty neat stuff.

I’ve used Pops-a-dent on a top tube before. It helped a little. Uses hot glue and can be applied to the painted tube. Beater bike so I wasn’t disappointed that traces of the dent still showed.

Yep. The coffee grinder restore is just plain nuts.

The tool used looks absolutely killer, Very cool.

But the Markforged commercial showing 3D printed composite parts? Very, very cool.

Seems that has all kinds of potential for bike stuff
