Performance stores closing

I saw that the Philly Performance store is closing. Has anyone seen other signs of their local Performance store shutting down?

Yep - there is an article on their site discussing the store closings and new rules on ship to store, team points, etc due to the BK filing

They filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in November. Bunch of stores are closing or have already closed. I also heard a rumour that all stores may be closing...

I went to the local Performance store yesterday. Staff said all stores are closing and auction early next year.

What I found interesting, lots of boxes from Nashbar in the aisles full of old bits and frames.

Boxes of wheel sets got a lot of attention. Saw several Mavic ceramic/exalith wheels.

Myself, I purchased a tool that I needed.

Looks like the Tampa store is closing as well. I went there about once a year to check for clothing...which was hit or miss on what they had. To be honest, that is all I really went in there for. Visually it was a nice shop with friendly staff.

Same in Seattle - 30% off plus an extra 10 on top “today only” which has been everyday. Bought some cleaner and drink mix last week. Bike were only 15% off (plus the extra 10). They had a nice Merckx with full Ultegra that was $3500 but down to only $2750 (minus an extra 10%).

Are they going to close everything or are only some of the stores?

All three shops in the Portland vicinity are closing: https://bikeportland.org/2018/12/07/...-region-292956. In fact, all shops will close.

Quote:
When BRAIN first reported the story, leaders of ASE made it seem like some of the stores would survive the re-organization.

But an email sent today from Gordon Brothers, a company hired to liquidate Performance’s inventory, made it clear that all the stores will be closed.

“The Company has made the strategic decision to close all 102 Performance Bicycle stores,” the email says. “Today marks the first day of a major sale at all Performance locations.”

Discounts will start at 40 percent. And as they say, everything must go...

Ugh. Heart goes out to the employees - I know it's none of their faults, they're good people (at my Beaverton store) and it must suck to be going through this. Maybe I'll venture in next weekend, jus to see what's around that I could use.

I was curious about the one near me:

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/importantupdate

AN UPDATE ON PERFORMANCE BICYCLE – 12/07/2018

To our customers,

The parent company of Performance Bicycle has entered into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and as a result there have been significant changes to our businesses. Currently, all Performance Bicycle stores are holding Store Closing Sales.

All stores are holding store closing sales. Infer from that.

Not much of an inference, actually. It's obvious.
