(OT) RIP Steve Albini
This one really hits me. One of the few people in the music business I truly respected. Straight shooter, he died with his integrity intact.
Man, 61 is not old. https://thequietus.com/articles/34129-steve-albini-dies Good interview with Marc Maron http://www.***pod.com/podcast/tag/Steve+Albini Steve Albini & Ian Mackaye in conversation https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...=1000378502485

Yeah, this sucks... huge contribution to music.
Kerosene will always be one of my favorite songs. |

Damn. Astounding amount of great music he produced he left us with, though.

The wedding present’s seamonsters is an all time favorite of the albums he produced.
Not well known but brilliant to my taste. Sad news for sure. |

Wow, that's really too bad. I was lucky enough to see Shellac live several years ago and it was such a good show. Exceptionally professional and fun.

Gutted. Big Black and Shellac were a big musical touchstone for me when I was young, not even to mention the countless bands he recorded and championed. His views on the music industry and his support for the old-school hardcore DIY ethos was undying and he is truly a rare example of someone who put their principles into practice in everything that he did. He also wrote a bunch of distasteful garbage for MRR back in the day, but I thought he did good by atoning for all that in a real and impactful way later in life.
Will be sorely missed. And on the eve of a tour, no less. |

A real one.
I've seen Shellac a bunch of times and every instance was a display of genius and brutality. Pour some kerosene on the ground and light it in recognition. |

he was such a lifer. passing inside electric audio is the best way for him to go out unless they decide to blow him to bits with firecrackers like roland.

While not a huge fan of most of the music he touched, I was certainly aware of most of it, which says a lot... especially considering how out-of-the-loop I've been for these past two or three decades.
He was also a savvy and uncompromising recording engineer. Smart, with good ears and better instincts. His treatise/diatribe "The Problem With Music" from 1993 is a must-read for anyone who ever contemplated a career in the music industry. For that alone he will be forever ensconsed in the pantheon of rock greats. RIP Steve. |

Plus one to the above on Seamonsters, Yanqui uxo, and the problem with music. Would also say the interview he did with Guardian last year is well worth your time.
https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...the-wrong-side Didn’t know the guy and no right to feel this way, but damn we lost something. Last edited by thekenoshakid; 05-08-2024 at 08:11 PM. |
