Thanksgiving Day Ride

The trails are about as nice as they get along the Minnesota River bottoms. It's been about as busy as I've ever seen it in the 9 years I've been riding down there. Fortunately, my gloves float! (A reference to the video.)

River Bottoms with Marty

In the 9 years I've been riding the river bottoms, I can't recall a time when it's ever been as busy as I've seen it in the last month—not even close. The ongoing pandemic must be playing a role as people are finding ways to socialize outdoors. If that's a silver lining from the pandemic, I'll take it.

River Bottoms Friday!

The trails are pure bliss to match the December weather we're enjoying. What an awesome day to be on a bike! đŸ„‚

Shadow Dancing

The temp made it to 50Âșf (9Âșc) yesterday which is a gift for a mid-December day in the Minneapolis area. I took advantage of it and did a 54 mile (87 km) ride on a route I'd been intending to do for a while—a route that takes me from home to the river bottoms and back via a circuitous route. What an awesome day to be on a bike! đŸ„‚

River Bottoms Less Traveled

What a really nice day to be riding the river trails! We're enjoying the mildest December I can recall in years in the Minneapolis area. I don't mind snow for the trails but I'm digging this as well. No bugs! What's not to like?

Da Plane! Da Plane!

The raft to cross Nine Mile Creek has been pulled up on shore until spring so some humans have gone into beaver mode. Their work is quite impressive but It's still quite sketchy and needs a bit more ice to support it. There are plenty of other trails to ride on the side of the creek I was on so I took a pass.

Welcome, 2021!

One last romp along the Minnesota River bottoms yesterday for 2020. I'm ready to get this new year underway. I hope you are as well!

Sunday Morning River Bottoms

There's something about the river bottoms on a Sunday morning that appeals to me more than does any other day of the week. This is as close as I get to church at this point in my life.

Riding the River Bottoms w/Hynek and Jason

We had such a mild December and so far, January has been mild as well. We've got snow on the way, tho. The forecast is for 6 - 10" (15 - 25 cm) of snow beginning during the night and into tomorrow.

The Green Light

I stuck close to home the past ten days since suffering a bit of an injury (2 owies, actually) out riding. I crashed on some ice and managed to hit my left hip kinda hard, leaving an ugly bruise that greeted me the next morning. But on the same ride, I was taking a shortcut back to my car and walking my bike down a steep, icy descent. I fell and hit my left knee super hard on a rock. I think I may have sworn a bit. Yeah, I definitely did that. So I've spent the past week riding my indoor trainer a number of times. I felt good Thursday night so I gave myself the green light to get back outside yesterday. What a beautiful day it was!

Church of the Winding Path

We continue to enjoy some unseasonably mild weather in the Minneapolis area this winter. Studs and 3-4 psi made easy work of what little ice I encountered. This is some video from yesterday morning's ride with a temp just below freezing—ideal winter riding weather, at least for me!

Where Is Everyone?

I love our change of seasons here in Minnesota, even if it means occasionally having to ride in temps of 1Âșf / -17Âșc. Today was one of those days. I thoroughly enjoyed myself out there!

Edit: the temp depicted at the start of the video should read 1°f / -17°c rather than 1°f / 17°c đŸ€Š*♂
