More with Santa Barbara routes
I never did it while living in the Santa Ynez valley, but while we're talking about Santa Barbara routes, I was curious about trying to put together something like a maximum circuit around the city.
I was partially inspired by the idea of the Tour of Flanders, which is largely flat and then hits hill after hill in the second half. (Obviously, there's no cobbles, though...) It's not a "smooth" ride; the real objective is to keep pushing into the foothills as much as possible where they connect. (Not going up and back one canyon.) I put together this route as a possibility: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/3740858437 Thoughts? |

muhuhahahaha, NOW i know where you live. SMITHERS, find out where this Mass..aaaaa...chuSeTts is and lets get some bikes.
on topic, i have done that ride and its amazing on a clear day. It is also quite good in early winter. edit : marker 50 - why not go farther out and come back around the university? it will make for good warmup/cooldown miles. Last edited by shrimp123; 12-05-2020 at 12:00 PM. |

Oh, certainly. It's just that that last little extension of Patterson was the last full loop that pushed up into the foothills. You could certainly extend it to go around west of UCSB, and even add in some of the spur roads into the canyons if you wanted to.
