How to dispose of small amounts of 501 dot brake fluid?

So all the disc brake bikes in my house are Shimano with eco friendly mineral oil except for 1 which has Avid Elixir R on it. I just bled my son's front brake and did a fine job, thanks, nice and crisp. What do I do with this stuff before I do the second. Some say to dump it in cat litter and let it evaporate, but no cat. I know not to flush it, can I squirt it into a paper towel and let it evaporate? It is only a small amount, how do ya'll deal with small amounts of dangerous material?

It's a water-soluble alcohol, so small amounts might go into the soil or down the drain safely (dilute heavily to avoid damage to plastic pipes).

A LOT of this stuff ends up soaking rags at the bike shop, and then goes into the trash.

For any labeled and contained quantity, put it in with your separate hazardous waste to be picked up just like antifreeze and motor oil.

i mean, this is a very small amount, and i would probably just toss it in the trash myself, but for information, any auto parts store that sells oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc - has to accept the waste back, at least in NJ as far as i know. you could probably bring it to an auto parts store and they will dispose of it for you.

alternatively, most all municipalities will have a couple days per quarter for haz material disposal where they will somehow accept old car batteries, used motor oil, old medicine, etc. you could probably look into that.

but again, if this is just a few ounces, just pour it in your next plastic trash bag full of household garbage and call it good.

For the small amounts used in a bike, I just pour it in with my used motor oil.
