UTAH - get me two!
Headed to SLC in a couple of weeks for a work conference and I'm planning to take a road bike and a few extra days to do some exploring..
So - recommendations sought on: (1) areas to look for lodging that are neither too far from downtown where the convention is nor too far from some decent quick-spin riding; (2) classic rides that take in what makes the area special - canyons, climbs, scenery, what have you - I'm more into backroads and one- or two-lane ribbons of asphalt into the hills than wide open screamer descents - but also don't want to be so far from others that if I bin-it I won't be found for hours - a mix of lengths would be good since I'll likely aim for a couple of 2-3 hour rides and maybe one 4 hour ride; and (3) can't miss coffee or foodie stuff of the mid-budget and moderately healthy variety. I'm not against joining a shop- or club-ride either, just not sure what my schedule will be at this point, so probably best not to be dependent on that.
