Cool brake system, old school

Forget cables and hydraulics, this is first rigid braking system I’ve ever seen. Love the handlebars. This is truly how to get rid of ugly cables

I'm just waiting for some bike company to come out with fully internal routing for rod brakes.

I borrowed an English 3 speed roadster in 1977 when I was staying in Kilry, Scotland, that had rod brakes, I think it was called a postman's bike. Brake shoes applied to the inside face of the rim rather than the sides.

It took me ten minutes to first recall the name of the tiny hamlet (Kilry) and then the name of the place where I stayed, a 1600s cottage with a huge AGA stove to keep the main space warm. I was hitching and the owner picked me up and invited me to stay a few days!
