Kinesis Maxlight X–budget XC hardtail

Most of my non-commuting miles these days are on my mountain bike. My full-suspension bike was out of commission for a few weeks, and it became clear that a second mountain bike was more important to me than having two road bikes. I'm in grad school, though, and can't just go out and buy a high-end mtb because they're super expensive! So, I traded in a road bike and built up this Kinesis. I'm really enjoying riding it and will probably race it at some longer and less technical races next spring. I've ridden it on smooth fast stuff, where I prefer the hardtail to a squishy bike, and on really rocky and technical trails, where I would have been faster on a full-sus bike but still had a great time.

The build is mostly budget but highly functional–aluminum frame, Fox Rhythm fork, SLX 1x11 drivetrain. The exception is the Enve wheels, which I got as part of my trade-in. I'm planning to upgrade things over time, but am really happy where things stand for now.

That's really cool. Love the color. I always gawk at the Kinesis bikes on the UK sites. I had a Kinesis Max Light fork on my MTB in the early 90s and have a fond connection with the brand - even though I think they aren't the same at this point...

+1. I need to get me something like this. I don't need anything super fancy for a MTB. Color looks awesome, nice build too

That was taken on Ginny Trail at Bobcat Ridge on 2/14. Guessing it's covered in snow again now. :/

Looks great, where did you find the frame? Can’t see anything for sale online besides their UK site.

That’s a little north of me, but still a good data point for when the JeffCo trails are all snowmelt.

I’m getting a little itchy for a good dirt ride, been a while.

I got this frame from Merlin. I don't think there are any US-based distributors.
