Serial1: Harley-Davidson Spins Off Ebike Company

www.serial1.com

Maybe way too early to post this, with almost no details available yet on the bike itself. Apparently about 3 weeks away from a further reveal, and bike available next Spring. What seems to be revealed so far is a cruiser/town mid-motor, belt drive bike.

I heard a rumor that they will be over 1,000 W – but most of that is to make "engine" noise.

interesting.

i wonder how many HD believers would also be in the market for an e-bike? the HD brand is pretty powerful, but that might be a bridge too far for the bike week crowd.

we'll see!

HA, I wonder how many would show up at Sturgis on one of these things. Along with a Harley doo-rag and frilly chaps.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the HD Live Wire, a pretty decent E-MC and they've been on the market for a year now.

At some point soon, on both road and trail, we'll be seeing every imaginable combination of bicycle and motorcycle, legislation willing.

That "first Harley-Davidson" shows what is needed today by one sub-set of riders, a bicycle frame made to house an engine. The current gas-powered engine kits for bikes are quite usable and efficient, but (heavier four-strokes especially) position the motor up way too high just to clear the downtube.

I have been watching the Ewan McGregor show "Long Way Up." They're riding the new HD electrics. 550 pounds, range 125 miles, constant range anxiety, and all for $30,000.

I'll have a Ducati Panigale V4S, thank you.

Agreed that the ebike buyer isn't a harley buyer. But Bosch makes appliances and Yamaha makes motorcycles and they make OE motors for ebikes. At this point, more products on the market is more better.

This is the first time H-D is trying to innovate in like 60-70 years so we probably shouldn't bash them.

Not seeing any electric motorcycles or eBikes in the news from the other traditional moto manufacturers.

From what they're showing on the page right now it looks like a pretty gorgeous bike if you're into that kind of bike. It has major design callbacks to the earliest H-D motorcycles that were essentially bicycles with a motor grafted on for board track racing.

harley davidson engines are extremely efficient at converting gasoline into noise. there are only a few horsepower as byproduct.
