See saddlebag with clip. Simple enough solution. Velcro won't detach this way.

my guess is that you want a quick release clip for your commuter because you lock it up unattended and don't want the bag to get swiped? and I'm also assuming you don't carry another bag with you regularly, so you can just throw your repair kit into that...

why don't you just use one of the bottle cage storage options? they're under $10 and you can quickly/easily take it on and off the bike. unless your commute is long enough that you need two bottles...? (hope not, that'd be a helluva commute!)

Nice McGuyver but personally it's time to sew on new velcro, get a new bag, or replace it with a different design. I'm not one to deal with a binder clip on top of all the other kitting up activity.

jandd makes many great saddle bags with zippered compartments and a fastex buckle instead of velcro. check out the mountain wedge or mini-mountain wedge

My U lock takes up the space on the seat tube where the 2nd cage could've gone.

That will be another thread entitled "My U-lock is ruining my commute"
